The Ireland Japan Association would like to express its deepest sympathies to the Japanese nation and offer its condolences to all those who have lost loved ones in the recent earthquake and subsequent tsunami.
Strong bonds have developed in recent years between the two nations and between individuals in the two countries and this adds to the sense of loss which we feel.
Any Irish people who are concerned about relatives and friends in Japan should contact the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs on (01) 4082000.
Ireland Japan Association - Earthquake Appeal
The Ireland Japan Association has set up a special fund for those anxious to contribute in a practical way to help those who have been affected by the earthquake and tsunami. The fund is called the "Ireland Japan Association - Earthquake Appeal".
Q&A:1) How can people help?
Concerned Irish people can help in a practical way by donating to our appeal. Although the Japanese Government has not requested the help of the Irish Government, the public can help. THIS IS A CITIZEN TO CITIZEN APPEAL.
2) What will the money be used for?
The Ireland Japan Association is a non-profit and completely voluntary association. So no monies will be taken or kept by the IJA. We intend to donate the monies raised to Japanese charities working locally in Japan. The monies will be used to help those who have been made homeless or those who have been otherwise affected by the earthquake and tsunami.
